ONE LOOK, JUDGMENT

ONE LOOK

Dealing with judgment as feeling..

This artwork, "One Look," depicts a woman with flowing long pink hair in an enchanting orange lace shirt. Her eyes, filled with mystery, gazed over her right shoulder, peering into the depths of her own emotions.

This watercolor painting was more than just an aesthetically pleasing piece to paint; it delved into the intricacies of the human experience. I've painted the portrait to explore the profound relationship between emotions and the human body.

Each brush stroke breathed life into the woman's visage, capturing the subtle changes as emotions coursed through my veins. I've sat with the art series "Human" for five months, exploring emotions. The process was very vulnerable. This particular painting is called One Look. A woman's face, once serene, transformed with every emotional shift. Happiness danced across her features, causing her cheeks to blush like a summer sunrise. And then the sadness crept into her eyes, leaving delicate trails of tears that merged with the vibrant hues. The birth of One look came from self-judgment as feeling.

“Self judgment is just what it sounds like: the process we go through when we judge or criticize ourselves. It’s often second nature, not even consciously thought of, more of an automatic reaction we have to our own thoughts, actions & feelings.”

The painting “One look” speaks eloquently about the human mind, revealing how it could become a battleground of emotions. In those moments when emotions stood tall, ready to conquer, I found myself entangled in my powerful grip. It was as if I was suspended between the ebbs and flows of my feelings.

My purpose became clear: to highlight the importance of emotions as a guiding force. The vibrant colors symbolize the diverse range of emotions that human beings experience. They were like signposts on the map of life, pointing the way forward, even amid uncertainty.

I aimed to bring to life a woman when In the presence of joy, her body radiated undeniable energy. Her posture straightened, her lips curled into a joyous smile, and her eyes sparked with the brightness of a thousand stars. It was a testament to the incredible power of positive emotions to uplift the spirit and inspire.

During the painting process, conversely, when sadness enveloped my being, I painted her shoulders slumped, burdened by the weight of the inner world. The pink hues of her hair dulled, mirroring the fading light in her eyes. It was a reminder that acknowledging and processing negative emotions was an essential part of the human experience, leading to growth and resilience. At the point where I was not satisfied with her presence I’ve repainted her full posture.

The artwork acted as a silent narrator, inviting viewers to reflect upon their emotional journeys. It encouraged them to embrace the ever-changing nature of their emotions, understanding that each feeling carried valuable insights.

The painting became a beacon of self-discovery, reminding us to honor the rich tapestry of emotions that color our lives. It encouraged us to navigate the complexities of our minds, using our feelings as a compass to guide us toward understanding, compassion, and, ultimately, a more profound connection with ourselves and others.

And so, the artwork of the woman with the pink hair, wearing an orange lace shirt, looking over her right shoulder, became a testament to the power of emotions and a celebration of the intricate dance between the human body and the ever-changing emotional landscape within.

The artwork is available for purchase here.
