The Red Rock Home | Where surrealism intertwines with realism.
The previous letter, with an introduction to my new art collection Delivered, had me change how I show up to you, my family, and my friends. I want to take 12 weeks to talk to you about my new collection.
Starting today with a very impactful painting, The Red Rock Home.
When I painted the painting “ The Red Rock Home,” I craved something different. I needed bright colors to surround me to remind me of how things can be bright despite gloomy days. I wanted to get lost in the scenery that is serene but has so much to tell. I needed a surrealism intertwined with realism. The change from one world to another was so real. I needed an escape to an unheard and unseen world to thrive. I searched for symbolisms in life while I was enduring the change, but I couldn’t think beyond the concrete house, cacti, and carpets. I needed a safe home that protected me from unbelievable weather conditions in Alabama, cacti, my constant plant protector, and carpets, a symbol for a softer landing in this turbulent transition.
This painting holds so much more than the portrayed woman carrying a basket full of cacti plants. While painting this woman, I thought about how humans can thrive in harsh life conditions, which results in our capacity to endure and adapt to challenging situations. But to do this, we must set boundaries and protect ourselves from physical and emotional harm. For this transition, while we are in a “deserted place,” we grow patience, which builds our personal growth and shapes us in uniqueness and individuality.
Other factors played a role in this thrivness that significantly impacted me while working on this painting. The combination of individual traits, experiences, skills, and support systems influences a person's success in adverse situations.
Change often leads to innovation, resilience, and personal development, allowing us to discover hidden strengths and capabilities. By embracing change, we not only navigate life's uncertainties with greater ease but also find the courage to pursue our dreams, form deeper connections, and contribute positively to the world.
Change is the canvas upon which we paint the story of our lives, and embracing it creates a tapestry of growth, purpose, and fulfillment.
After I painted this painting (April 2023), I still didn’t have a title for her. Then, in June 2023, we embarked on our USA road trip. This trip was so damn amazing. There was growth after growth in each state we stopped. Utah, Moab had my heart and the whole of Arizona. In Moab, I decided that this painting would be named The Red Rock Home.
Also, on that trip, I decided to offer next to the original paintings, archival, limited edition, signed art prints from this collection.
